Haiku poems by David Weller, aka poetspirit
swaying field grasses
invite the old wheel barrow
back into nature
above morning sounds
the calls of chachalacas
demand attention
cactus living tough
surviving rough abiding
shallow, hollow bed
riding the night trail,
cowboy eyes the creek ahead,
setting four-wheel drive
mesquites derided
by brutish ranchers provide
smoked meats and jelly
rattlesnake nest
warns with a harsh sound, prompting
me to mambo dance
beyond internet
camp is cool under the stars
hot coffee is sipped
guitar, fiddle plays
after the plates sweep away
men search for women
old man sabine palm
grows his whiskers with cut fronds
stating character
sandstone trims the lake
small islands pepper its depths
live oaks salt the shore
an endless seashore...
white crystal sand dunes rising...
ouch! a jellyfish
painted wooden plaque
hangs on restaurant door at lunch
"'fishin' and eatin'"
a lengthy ranch road
courses through wide horizons
mountains at the end
stupefying stop
a sign at gravel ranch roads'
intersection: "Creek"
